Kay Bros Hillside Amery Shiraz 2016
Colour: Deep ruby red.
Nose: Dark cherry, blackberry, mint, white pepper, vanilla bean and caraway seed.
Palate: Round and generous fleshy fruit rich with plums, blackberry and mulberries, cedar, spices and truffle. A balanced, tight acidity together with soft integrated tannins shows good complexity and palate persistence.
Harvested during March and processed utilising open fermentation and basket pressing. Matured for 18 months in American oak barrels prior to bottling under Stelvin screw caps .15.5% Alc/vol.
Rated 90 points in Robert Parker’s October 2006 Issue 167 of the Wine Advocate – Please note that the sample tasted was an unfinished wine direct from the barrel. “The 2005 Shiraz Amery is not as nuanced, evolved, or complex as its older sibling (2004 Amery Shiraz), but exhibits copious quantities of blackberry and black cherry fruit along with truffle, asphalt, and roasted meat characteristics in the background. It, too, should evolve for 8 – 10 years
