Dark plums, cassis and spice, so beautifully ripe and so beautifully fresh, would rise out of its opaque heart, and cast their silky spell on you. And as you drank it in – for how could you not, you would have had no choice but to succumb – that same silk would roll down upon you – wonderfully weighted and of the deepest amaranthine and the most infinitely black. The same black plum, scintillatingly fresh cassis and piquant gingerbread, clove and cinnamon spice would make for a completely delicious wine of wonderful structure, velvety tannins and great length. Opulent but balanced, formidable yet perfectly proportioned. Powerful and intense, yet never heavy, and as fresh as the day it was born.
