Franco D’Anna’s 1er Pinot Noir has earned its place among the most collected wines in the Yarra Valley. It’s a benchmark for Upper Yarra Pinot and typically is never available for long.
The fruit comes from the Top Paddock block, a west-facing, south-sloping vineyard that ripens slowly and evenly. Around 25% of the ferment includes whole bunches, giving lift and structure, while the rest is handled gently to preserve detail. The wine spends 18 months in barrel and is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
The 2024 release is beautifully poised. Red cherry, wild strawberry and spice lead into fine tannins and a long, mineral finish. There’s concentration here, but also restraint — the kind of tension that promises years of development ahead.
